My name is Mike Davenport and I’m the person behind RowCollege. You can read a little more about me at my school’s website- but let me take a moment to give you a bit of glimpse at who I am.
I am the Director of Rowing, and Women’s Rowing Coach, at Washington College, in Chestertown, Maryland. I’ve been coaching collegiate rowing for 26 years.
During those years I’ve been fortunate enough to have had many great experiences, from working with a wide variety of wonderful college students, to representing the US at several international events.
I am a firm believer that the college selection process does not have to be a stressful one, and instead can be enjoyable, and of course, very productive.
I am also one of the founders of SportWork, a company whose focus is to help sport coaches coach.
You might think coaching limits a person to other vocations. Not necessarily so. I have a number of other ‘hats’ that I wear including:
- NCAA compliance coordinator at my college
- Author of several books, including the Nuts and Bolts Guide to Rigging.
- Adjunct professor: teaching leadership and sports courses
- Speaker: I regularly speak at conferences, workshops, and conventions on topics related to coaching.
- Primary educational consultant for USRowing.
I hope I’ve given you a glimpse of who I am and what I do. If you’re a prospective student or family member I’d love to hear from you about your experiences in the college search in the comments sections on my posts.
